A Lovely Walk on Spurn Point

It was quite a bright autumn day and the men were out on exercise so I decided to go for a walk. I ended up walking all the way from our end of the point to the entrance and back. Being a weekday I didn't come across many other people, not even any birdwatchers!

The Point seems so much longer when you are walking along it, and you get to really understand how narrow certain points are. Where the road was washed away there is only a couple of metres each side of the road (at high tide).

Daytrip to Cleethorpes

A few weeks back we visited Cleethorpes, which is just the other side of the Humber Estuary from Spurn Point. Of course we visited the small lifeboat station there. They launch their D-class Lifeboat from the beach, which at low tide the water is quite some distance from the shore line! It was a beautiful sunny day, until the skies opened and we got drenched! But soon after the downpour the sun was shining once again.

Autumn Watch Filmed on Spurn Point

Well, it all happens on Spurn! Just the other day we were told that Michaela Strachan would be on Spurn Point, filming for Autumn Watch. These pictures were taken from our living room - she was just outside our back garden. I did think about offering to make them all cups of tea...but wimped out.

Yesterday we also had Julia Bradbury visiting Spurn Point...they were filming for Countryfile.

A Little Update!

Sorry about the delay in posts, we had a week or so off of the point and then I had troubles signing back in! But all problems have been resolved...so we're back :)
Pete completed his Sea Survival Course in Poole and I had a lovely week with the family in Cornwall. After his course, Pete took part in a passage - transfering a lifeboat from Cowes back to Spurn. Finally I got him back home, but then we got the strong westerly winds that meant the boys had to take the lifeboat to Grimsby. He is thankfully back home now as is happy to have his bed back!!
We were lucky to share the beautiful weather that the country experienced last week - and now we are back to a bit of rain, cold breeze and fog! Well, at least Pete is hopeful for a shout!
